The second worst nightmare.

I received an injury notification today in the form of two strangers in ACUs. My life from this point on will never be the same, but I will embrace it and defeat all obstacles. I've been surrounded by beautiful Army wife angels all day and my mother and sister-in-law arrive tonight.

I have to see this typed: My husband lost both of his legs. He is otherwise fine and in good health, whatever that means.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers.

  9. My heart is breaking. I know it won't begin to help, but I am so sorry. I am at Ft. Bragg, which is really far away, but please let me know if there is anything I can do. From one EOD wife to another, I am sending so many good thoughts, lots of love, and prayers.

  13. In April my husband lost one leg and the other was crushed and is going through excruciating procedures to rehabilitate it. I sent you a ton of information through LAW, as well as my real name and contact info. We are 4 months into this process. It will get better. I promise. There is light in this darkness. Your lives are unquestionably changed, but you can do this. I am here, any time day or night, if you would like to talk with someone slightly further down the path from you. You are not alone--no matter what you are thinking or feeling, there are those of us who have gone before you who have thought and felt those same things. You have strength beyond what you know and the hands of family, friends, and complete strangers will be there to support you throughout this journey. If your final destination is where our family is, we will be here to show you the ropes when you get here. Peace, strength, and courage to you, my sister.

  20. I am so sorry! How inadequate that phrase is really, but words are so useless in times like these. My cousin-in-law lost both of his legs in Afghanistan & though him, I have met many, MANY wounded veterans. I can say that although life will be bleak for awhile, you will have a great support system to help you guys through this. I am going to send my cousin over to this page so hopefully she can give you a lot of been there, done support.

  57. I am a long time reader of your blog and have been consistently inspired by you and your marriage. I was heart sick to hear what has happened to your family.

I know you already have a wonderful support system in place, but if you find yourself in the Washington/Bethesda area and need anything, pleaes don't hesitate to reach out. I wish there was something more I could do for you than tell you how incredibly sorry I am.

Please know you are not alone, as so many people have said, you are in my thoughts today.

  61. I read your post yesterday and have been trying to think of an appropriate comment ever since. I can't; I don't think there is one. After my neighbor's husband was wounded she told me that the best thing I said to her was, "I really don't know what to say." ...because I don't think there is a sentence that would adequately cover such devastating news. So I guess that's what I'm sending you...along with the certainty that you and your husband are in my prayers. He is fortunate to have such a strong and loving wife as you move forward together.

  62. Isaiah 40 : 28-31

    "Have you not known?
    Have you not Heard?
    The everlasting God, the Lord
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
    Neither faints, nor is weary.
    His understanding is unsearchable
He gives power to the weak
    and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint."

You can do this & we will keep you all in prayer.

  69. Oh goodness, love. I don't blog anymore, but I heard through the milspouse grapevine and came here to read the news. I'm so sorry that you're going through this... and that he is. Obviously. You are handling yourself pretty damned well, all things considered. I know it's not going to be an easy road from here on out, but I wish for you the least amount of Army bullshit (and stupidity from people in general) possible. I'll be keeping you both in my thoughts.
